Naoshima to Kyoto

The Private Pier at Naoshima

Din Tai Fong in Kyoto at Takashimaya Department Store

This was a day of transit. Starting from the mono-rail to bring us down to the hotel main level, then car to the private ferry to the port of Uno, Taxi from the Port to the city of Okayama. There we hopped on the bullet train to Kyoto. A Taxi ride from the train station completed our day of travel. When we arrived the Kyoto was preparing for a major holiday parade. It went right by our hotel. We decided to go eat a late lunch, and when returned we realized the parade was going to stop us from crossing the street to get to your hotel. What to do? We instantly decided, lets get a massage for an hour and worry about it then.

So we went and had a massage, and the damn parade was still going on. We said screw-it and when the parade briefly halted, we ran across the street, wondering if the cops would arrest us. We bought some wine and rice crackers for our room, and went to the hotel bar for a a great Martini. It is clear the bartender is really into mixology. It was fun to watch him.

We walked up to the great department store: Takashimaya (this store is like the equivalent of Herrod’s in London). We did discover they have a branch of Din Tai Fung, we will definitely be eating there for lunch this trip! We then went to a few other galleries but restrained ourselves. As we walked around we could see the charming way they are restoring the old Kyoto homes to create neighborhoods. For dinner we went to a Kyoto style restaurant that specialized in serving chicken skewers.
